This is the original Grand Trunk line from Fort Gratioyt (Port Huron) to West Detroit. Station hours in 1935. Passing siding capacity in 40' cars.

Notes

In 1935 this line was double track from West Detroit to the double track switch near 8 Mile Road. Normal position for Double Track spring switch is Westbound. Selfridge air field spur is 30,000 feet off subdivision.

Time Line

1872. The Bay City Railroad (Detroit & Bay City) will be thoroughly ballasted between the Grand Trunk (West Detroit) and the Detroit & Milwaukee junctions by the end of the week, when per orders the Grand Trunk passenger trains will run over the new road into the Michigan Central depot at the junction. [DFP-1872-1024]

1971. Double track between Double Track Switch and Milwaukee Jct., and between Beaubien Jct. and West Detroit, which is joint track with N&W (former Wabash). Also, GTW has use of joint main track from West Detroit to Dearoad, use by N&W (Wabash) and D&TSL. GTW timetable applies north of West Detroit. Cars limited to 263,000 lbs. Speed limit 57 mph for passenger trains, 45 for freight trains. 20 mph through interlockings. 30 mph within the City of Detroit. Double track switch is a spring switch for westbound movements, block signal governs switch points. Train order offices are at Milwaukee Jct (24 hours) and daytime at Fraser, Mt. Clemens, New Haven and Richmond. [GTWET-1971-0501].

1971 - Railroad gates at Selfridge Field are equipped with switch lock and are to be closed and locked when not in use.
