Time Line

1871. Work begins by the M&O on this branch line from the main line near the Washington Mine. A 9 mile branch line commended in October, 1971. Work was slow and the Republic mine shut down to allow workers to assist the railroad in completing the branch. Republic was reached in September, 1872. This mine was a major producer of ore for the M&O and successors over the years. Passenger service was provided by the M&O using short trains to connect with the main line. [DSS]
