April: CSX brings two gen-set yard locomotives (#1300 and #1301) to Rougemere Yard, in an effort to cut emissions. The project is funded with the assistance of MDOT and the Southeast Michigan Council of Governments. [MRC-07/08]

April 16: The E&LS begins moving trailers on flatcars between Smurfit Stone paper in Ontonagan and Green Bay. [MRC-07/08]

June: CN removes the 2nd main track on the former D&TSL between NS Bridge (Victoria Jct.) and Coolidge in River Rouge. Two tracks are now unnecessary now that much of the CN traffic uses the Conrail Shared Assets line between Beaubien and Coolidge. [MRC-07/08]

June: An underpass is built under the CN main line at Farm Lane on the Michigan State University campus in East Lansing, replacing both the CN and CSX grade crosisngs. [MRC-07/08]

June 24: RailAmerica's Mid-Michigan Railroad abandons operations on 15.83 miles of the old Detroit & Milwaukee/GTW line between Lowell and Ionia. They pull the last railcar, an empty tank car of anhydrous ammonia fertilizer from Ionia. Ionia Standard Lumber and Gallagher's Farm Service were the last two customers in town. Both used rail service only intermittently. [MRC-07/08]
