January 1: Erie and Michigan Railway and Navigation Company returns leased Alabaster Branch to the D&M. [HI/MRRC]

June: The LS&I asks the Interstate Commerce Commission (ICC) for permission to build 14.3 miles of new track, from a point west of Ishpeming depot to a point near the village of Republic, intended to serve iron ore mines being developed in the area. [LSJ-1948-0601]
