Okemos was settled about 1839 as Sanford. In 1841 a village called Hamilton was platted here. In 1862 it became Okemos. Okemos was served by both the Pere Marquette and the Grand Trunk Western.
Today, Okemos is the beginning of double track of the CN (former GTW) in the Lansing area. This is a control point located at 227.5 on the CN main line.
1913. March 10. A loose tire on a locomoptive causes a derailment on the Pere Marquette here, killing two people.
