Location: East Houghton Yard, MI
East Houghton Yard was located along Portage Lake, east of the lift bridge in Houghton. This was originally a Mineral Range Yard, later used by the Duluth South Shore & Atlantic and the Soo Line Railroad.
Photo Info: Top, a view of the East Houghton Yard, looking west. The Portage canal is in the background and the concrete pad at the left was the base for the enclosed water tower. There was a roundhouse here at one time but is long gone. The tank cars may have been used for refueling of diesel locomotives.
