Sumac Grade was located near Loretto, in Dickenson County on the C&NW's Ore Line. The exact location has not been determined.

Time Line
1953. A C&NW loaded ore train derailed on the Sumac grade, as the result of a broken rail. Four diesel units and fine cars of the 127-car train derailed. About 100 feet of racks were turn up in the accident. No one was injured and track repairs were completed. During the interruption ore trains were routed through Powers. [EDP-1953-1012]
