Station: Vulcan, MI

Vulcan was settled in 1872 by the Milwaukee Iron Company. [MPN] It was a station on the C&NW railroad about 10 miles east of Iron Mountain. [MPN] Vulcan was located east of Lake Hanbury in Section 15 of T39N-R29W in Dickenson County.


Notes

The C&NW had a depot with telegraph window, store and office here. The line appears to have had signals in both directions here. [CNWV-1917]

The C&NW and CM&StP had sidings here to the central Vulcan, east central Vulcan mine shafts (2) and Verona mine, but they may have been removed by 1917. [CNWV]

The C&NW and the CM&StP railroad had a crossing on the leads to the East Vulcan mine. The crossing was owned and maintained by the CM&StP railroad. [CNWV]

1918. The C&NW had an agent and a telegrapher operator at this station on the day shift. [TRT]
