Location: Escanaba, MI - C&NW Ore Yard
The C&NW's Ore Yard was a 10 track yard (including main line) used for storing ore cars awaiting dumping into docks #5 and #6. Each track was approximately 2,000' in length. The yard was located just west of the E&LS gated crossing on the ore dock lead.
Notes
The yard office for this yard was located at the west end of the yard ladder of tracks. There was also an ore thawing system on this end of the yard. [CNWV-1917]
Time Line
1891. The Ore subdivision, between Antoine and Escanaba was built by the Schlesinger syndicate, along with dock #5. This marshalling yard was also built approximately at that time. Within a year of construction, the operation was taken over by the C&NW.
