Penn was settled around 1869 and named Jamestown. The name was changed to Penn, the name of the township, at the request of the post office. [MPN] The town was a station stop on the Grand Trunk Western main line about five miles northeast of Cassopolis in Cass County.

1915. The GTW had a 13 car passing track here. [GTOS-1915-1102]
1917. The GTW had an agent here during the day shift. Telegraph call was "V". [TRT]
1931. The MPUC allows the GTW railway to change its station at Penn from an agency station to a non-agency station in charge of a care-taker. [MPUC-1931]
