County: Baraga (07)

Baraga County, Michigan was established on February 19, 1875. The county was formed from land that was separated from Houghton County. The county seat was established in L'Anse. The county was named after Father Frederick Baraga, who established a Roman Catholic mission in Assinins in 1843.
 
The economy of the area has shifted from lumbering, fishing, mining, and agriculture to manufacturing, tourism, casino gaming, and government services. [GGAI]
