Station: Kensington, IL

Kensington is located on the south side of Chicago, about 14 miles south of the downtown loop. Kensington was the junction of the Michigan Central main line from Detroit, and the Illinois Central railroad. MC trains used the IC to reach reach downtown Chicago.

Time Line

1880. The MC builds a "transfer house" at Kensington, 800 feet in length. [MCAR-1880]

1917. The MC had an operator-towerman here around-the-clock. [TRT]

1947. This station was an interlocked junction. [ETT-1947]
