Matteson is a village in Cook County, IL and was a station stop on the Michigan Central's Joliet Branch. The population of the town is approximately 13,000 people today. The area was settled in the late 1800's and had 500 residents in 1889.
Until 1923, the Illinois Central crossed at grade here. In 1923, the IC was elevated over the Joliet branch. The station was also dismantled at this time.
1947. Matteson's station was open for two shifts, from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm, and from 8:00 pm to 4:00 am. The railroad had a yard here. [ETT-1947]
