Station: Gary, IN

Gary station Calumet was located in north central Lake County. It was a station stop on the Wabash's fourth district which ran between Montpelier, Ohio and Chicago. Gary was served by many other railroads.

Notes

The Wabash line in Gary was crossed at grade by the Gary Railway, which was a street car line.[WFD]

The Lake Shore & Michigan Southern also had a station here, located at Broadway Street, just south of the US Steel Gary Works. This station, now abandoned, still exists.


Time Line

1920. On the Michigan Central, this is a passenger ticket and freight station. Also issues Interline tickets. Call sign is "GR". [MCOAS]

1922. August 21. An express train is wrecked at Gary, IN. The investigation shows removed rail spikes were the cause. A reward has been offered. [NYT]
