Location: Charlevoix Avenue, Detroit, MI (DTRR/DSR)

Charlevoix Avenue crossing was three blocks north of East Jefferson between Lillibridge and Connor avenues. This was the crossing of the Detroit Terminal railroad and the DSR street car line.

Time Line

1926. A Charlevoix street car struck a locomotive of the Detroit Terminal railroad at the Charlevoix crossing. Four passengers in the trolley car were injured and a panic in the crowded car was caused by the crash. The crash occurred in a heavy downpour late in the afternoon. All of the injured were taken to Receiving hospital. Several women fainted when they saw the engine coming toward the car.

The motorman applied more power in an effort to cross ahead of the engine. The engine was moving very slowly and the engineer made an unsuccessful effort to stop. Police also reported the street car electric signal showed a warning light on their arrival. [DFP-1926-0821]
