Location: Gaylord, MI - Northern Michigan Tuberculosis Sanatorium

The Michigan TB sanatorium (hospital)  opened a 128 bed facility on the north side of town in 1937. It had four stories and five accessory buildings on 160 acres. It became a state hospital known as the Alpine Center and closed in 1980.


Notes

It appears to have had a siding off the MC for delivery of coal, but not confirmed.


Time Line

1981. The former hospital was renovated. Later it became the site of Gaylord High School and several other education and public service buildings. [OHS]
