The Milford gravel mining operation was located in the south end of the township closer to New Hudson. The mines were served by the Grand Trunk Western's Jackson Branch with a siding just northeast of New Hudson. Most of the mine was located in Milford Township.

The Standard Gravel Co., which later became American Aggregates Corp.) in New Hudson owned a Class B Shay, builder's number 1931. It was originally built for the Cadillac Chemical Co. of Cadillac, MI in 1907 as #3. In October, 1926 it was sold to Slater Construction in New Hudson, and in 1927 resold to Standard Gravel Co. in New Hudson. It was scrapped in 1934.
