Orchard Lake was settled about 1872 as a lake resort community. It became a village in 1927. [MPN]
Orchard Lake was located on the Grand Trunk Western Jackson branch about eight miles southwest of Pontiac. The town was also on an interurban line running north from Farmington to Pontiac.

1888. May 17 - at Orchard Lake, a Michigan Air Line mixed train ran into an open switch and the engine overturned, scalding the engineer, who died. He left a wife and nine children. [SAG-18888-0518] The wife is suing the GT railway for damages. [PHTH-1888-0521]
1895. The GTW depot was located near the railroad crossing of Orchard Lake Road. [LOC-map]
