Station: McFee, MI
McFee was a junction point on the Alpena & Northern railroad in north central Montmorency County. The A&N came south to here from LaRoque (Hawks) enroute to Valentine Lake and west from there. At McFee, there was a wye for turning locomotives. The location of the wye can be observed on old maps though there is no evidence of the wye remaining. A branch line (from the wye) left the line from here to the east towards the Hillman area. McFee is about four miles southeast of the entrance to Canada Creek Ranch on M-33.
Notes
Time Line
1895. August. A chain broke on a car of long timber on the A&N at McPhee's siding, letting the timber fall from the car on the men who were loading. Joe Ember was struck in the back by a stick of timber and thrown some distance, falling on a limb, which penetrated his stomach. He is terribly cut and bruised and will die. He leaves a wife and two children. [LSJ-1895-0809]
