Trufant was settled about 1871 with a saw mill established here. [MPN] It was located on a Pere Marquette branch line between Greenville and Howard City. The location was about 10 miles southeast of Howard City on the Montcalm/Kent county border.
Trufant is named after the first settler of the land here. [I&L]

1874. July 18. A tree across the tracks derails a DL&LM gravel train, killing seven and injuring 15. [I&L]
1879. A new station was built here by the DL&N. [DL&N-1879]
1940s. Early. The depot at Trufant is torn down. [I&L]
1872. Hileman and Hester steam saw mill. They also laid out the village. [I&L]
