Industry: Monroe, MI - Other Industries

The City of Monroe had substantial industries which were served by four north-south railroads, one east-west railroad, and spur lines from these routes to the Raisin River and Lake Erie shore.


Industries

  • Amendt Milling Company. Farming elevator. Located on the LS&MS branch to Adrian, south of W. Front Street between Smith and Adams streets in 1916. This facility still exists in 2024 as Bekrom Foods.
  • Boehme & Rauch Co.. Producers of folding paper boxes and shipping cases. Several plant facilities located along the LS&MS on its branch to the Monroe Piers.
  • Monroe Gas Light & Fuel Company. A supplier of gas with coal and coke sheds, and gasometer storage facilities. Located at Smith Street, between the Raisin River and W. Front Street. Served by the river.
  • Monroe Glass Company. This plant was located behind (east of) the D&TSL passenger station. It was south of East 1st Street, and served via a wye from the D&TSL to the LS&MS.

  • Van Blerck Motors. Located along the LS&MS on its branch to the Monroe Piers. Manufactures of stationary marine motors.
  • Weis Manufacturing Company. Manufactures of office furniture and supplies. Located south of West Front Street between Union and Roosevelt avenues. In 1916. [SBM]
