Location: Monroe, MI - Monroe Tower

Monroe Tower (as it was known on the PM), was the crossing of their main line (between Plymouth and Toledo) and the Lake Shore & Michigan (later NYC) Monroe Branch (from Monroe to Adrian). This was an interlocked crossing which was staffed by the PM.


Notes

The LS&MS refers to this tower as the M&T Tower. It is a Saxby-Farmer Lever machine from Union Switch & Signal Co. [MCR-1904]


Time Line

1912. January. A full interlocking and derailing switch and signal system is approved for this crossing. [MCR-1912]

1927. Monroe Tower was staffed around-the-clock by a operator-leverman. Rate of pay was 62¢ per hour.

1960's. This interlocking was automated. First train received the signal. [DH]
