Time Line

1917. May 25. A C&NW train crashed into a street car in North Menominee. Motorman of the street car, Harry O'Brien for the M&M Light & Traction Company who was in charge of the death car said he could not see any headlight on the engine and unaware of the approaching train he crossed the track. The engine overturned on its side in the ditch and the engineer and fireman were injured. The location of the wreck was on Taylor avenue, coming from Henes park. The street car was cut in two. A wrecking train was called from Escanaba to right the engine before the train was pulled into Marinette, its destination. The crossing on Taylor avenue has no gates and it is believed that O'Brien failed to notice the oncoming train before attenting to run the car across the track. A coroner's inquest will be called.
