Station: Bachelor, MI

Bachelor was settled in Mason County about 1884 and was the location of a local sawmill from the Alden Batchelor & Company. The railroad identified the town as Batchellor. [MPN]

Bachelor was located about five miles north of Walhalla Junction in eastern Mason County on the Pere Marquette branch line to Manistee.

Time Line

1891. May 11. Mr. Batchellor at Batchellor station on the F&PM twenty miles southeast of Manistee, lost 1,000,000 feet of lumber during Saturday afternoon [due to fire] and his mill and another million feet of choice lumber was only saved by the heroic conduct of the mill employees. Loss $12,000. [DFP-1891-0511]
