Birch was a station on the Big Bay Branch of the Lake Superior & Ishpeming railroad, located about ten miles southeast of Big Bay in Marquette County.

Lumbering
Northern Lumber Co. (of Marquette) (xxxx ← 1906 → xxxx). Has begun shipments of forest products from its yards at Birch. An average of two cars a day, consisting of telegraph poles and hemlock bard, are being shipped. [AML-1/6/1906]
