Location: Dishno, MI

Dishno was a location on the Chicago & Northestern Michigamme branch, west of Martin's Landing. There was a side track here which was removed in 1918. [CNWV] There was also a gravel pit here.

The DSS&A also reached Dishno on their adjacent main line. They referred to this as Dishneau Pit and had side tracks on the south side of their main line. [DSSN]

This was located in Section 23 of T48N-R30W

Dishno Gravel Pit opened in 1900 and operated until 1903. Fine gravel was excavated by steam shovel with no tripping required. Gravel was used in ballasting the C&NW main line between Brampton and Ishpeming. 105,000 cubic yards were removed. This was in the SW 1/4 of SW 1/4 of Section 19 T48N-R29W, and the NE of NE of Section 25, T48N-R30W.


Time Line

1896. The C&NW reports that their branch crosses the Iron Range & Huron Bay railroad here at grade. There is no mention that this crossing was interlocked. [MCR-1896]

1900. The Dishno gravel pit opens here. Operates until 1903.

1928. A spur to the Walstrom Brothers was built here in March, 1928 and removed in September, 1928. [CNWV]

1930. The C&NW line through Dishno was retired in October, 1930. [CNWV]
