Cleveland Cliffs and Ford Motor, owners of the Humboldt Mine, built an ore beneficiation (pellitization) plant at Humboldt Mine to process the lower quality ore here. The operation began in the mid-1950's and later also processed similar low quality ore from the Republic mine. [LSI1]
