Station: Clowry, MI
Clowry was a station on the Chicago & North Western railroad about five miles northeast of Champion in Marquette County. There was a junction here with a branch line south to the Republic Mine area. The hamlet was named after Col. Robert C. Clowry, a president of the Western Union company. [Wiki]
The Michigamme branch had a wye and a 2,332' passing track here (between wye switches) and a bay window style depot, coal shed, section house, pump house and water tank here. [CNWV]
Notes
This junction was located at milepost 192 (from Green Bay) on the C&NW Michigamee Branch. It was located in Section 26 of T48N-R29W.
Time Line
1916. The C&NW builds a new water tank at Clowry. [CNWV][MCR-1916]
1918. The C&NW had an agent operator here on the day shift. [TRT]
1930. The C&NW branch here to Republic was retired and retained as the Dishno Gravel Pit spur. [CNWV-1930]
