1902. A 12-year-old boy at play at the Buckley & Douglas boom this forenoon was drowned. John Scheld, in charge of the M&NE railroad freight house, say the boy fall into the water and plunged in after him but being unable to swim sank to the bottom. Scheld was rescued and resuscitated. The body of the boy was not recovered for over twenty minutes and could not be revived. [DFP-1902-0708]

1910. June 5. News was received here today of the death of William Douglas, a pioneer lumberman of Manistee, at Chicago, while he was on his way home from Texas where he spent the winter for the benefit of his health. He was a member of the Buckley & Douglas Lumber company and was also vice president of the Manistee & Northeastern railroad. He had been in poor health for some time. [DFP-1910-0606]
