The Marquette, Houghton & Ontonagon railroad had a short-lived ore dock at St. Ignace. The goal was to bring iron ore from the Marquette Range for shipment to the Detroit and Cleveland areas.
A small amount of ore was shipped but the railroad quickly realized they couldn't be competitive with lake shipping.
The dock was closed and the lumber and other parts were relocated to Marquette.
