Time Line
1948. November 17. A school bus and a freight train collided near here yesterday, killing one child and injuring six others. Six year old Jean Couturier was killed and a second girl critically hurt. The accident took place at the M&NE grade crossing midway between the villages of Greilickville and Cherry Bend in Leelanau county. The children were thrown through the door of the bus which was spun around by the impact with the diesel locomotive. Jean died in Munson hospital a short time after the accident. Barbara Crawford, also six, was reported in critical condition after amputation of a badly crushed leg. [EDP-1948-1117]
