Glen Haven is located on the shore of Lake Michigan in western Leelanau County. The area was founded in 1857 with the building of a hotel here, near the vast sand dunes in the area. A steamer dock was established in 1859 for the loading of forest wood, and a lighthouse and Coast Guard station were added shortly thereafter. [MPN]
