Wingleton was settled about 1873 when industrialist Eber Brock Ward set up his brother-in-law, Justus Sterns, here with the Sterns Lumber Company. This location was initially called Sterns Siding but renamed Wingleton in 1882. [MPN]
1889. October. The F&PM has acquired possession and control of the Danaher & Melindy logging railroad, south of Wingleton, connecting with and forming an extension 10 miles long of the Star Lake branch. The company will operate the road and use it to bring to the line of the western division large quantities of shingled, hardwood timber and lumber. [SCH-1889-1024]
