Location: Grand Rapids, MI - GR&I West Side Station

The original station of the Grand Rapids & Indiana railroad was built on the corner of East Seward and Bridge Streets in Grand Rapids on the west side of the river. When the railroad was being routed through Grand Rapids around 1867, there was considerable discussion about whether to build a second depot east of the river.

A second station was ultimately built and it became a union station along with several other railroads.

The west side station was closed in 1873. All passenger and freight business would now be handled by the union station. The road's engine house, wood yard and blacksmith shop would be moved to the east side of the river. [FL-p46]
