Notes

Time Line

1880. January. The storm Saturday night did more or less damage to all the roads entering Grand Rapids. The GR&I had a bridge partially destroyed near Fisher, and three of the Rogue river bridges near Rockford are badly damaged. Travel between Grand Rapids and Howard City was entirely suspended. Through the kindness of the DGH&M and the DL&N, the company will run trains over these lines from Grand Rapids to Howard City via Ionia. The DL&N have sent their bridge force to assist the GR&I in repairing their bridges. It will be several days before the repairs are completed. [GRP-1880-0105]
