Station: Sand Lake, MI (Kent County)
Sand Lake is a town at the very northern edge of Kent County. The Grand Rapids & Indiana came through here in 1869 and a sawmill was built. The town became a village in 1878. Part of the village is located in Montcalm County.

Time Line
1884. September. A destructive fire raged at Sand Lake, a little village 28 miles north of Grand Rapids and about $20,000 of property was destroyed. The fire originated during a heavy thunderstorm. The village is entirely destitute of any fire-fighting apparatus or supply of water. They telegraphed early for assistance but when it was learened that they had no water, it was not sent.
