Location: Kalamazoo, MI - CK&S / LSMS Crossing

This was the interlocked crossing of the Lake Shore & Michigan Southern and the Chicago, Kalamazoo & Saginaw. This was a single lever interlocking installed by the Gravitt Signal Co. [MCR-1904] It used a "wheel" for the lever. [MCR-1895]

Notes

The interlocking was 0.9 miles north of the Michigan Central crossing. At this point, the CK&S and LS&MS came parallel to each other. This might have been an industrial lead off the CK&S to the Checker Plant, crossing the LS&MS. Or the other way around. The LS&MS was built here in 1868. The CK&S was built through here in 1889 and the interlocking would have been installed at this date or later. Most Gravitt interlockings were installed in the 1880's by US&S.

1911. December 13. The Michigan Railroad Commission issues an order approving construction of a half interlocking and derailing and signal system at the crossing of the CK&S side track and LS&MS main line in Kalamazoo, Kalamazoo County. [MCA-2011]
