Schoolcraft was a village south of Kalamazoo. It was the crossing of the LS&MS and the GTW.

Telegraph call for Schoolcraft was "CF".
1890. September 12. No. 6, a fast westbound passenger train on the C> railroad ran into the hind end of a freight train at this place at 3:20 o'clock this morning, causing the worst wreck that was ever seen here. The freight train that was run into was side-tracked to let the express pass but had backed up to allow another freight to enter the siding from an opposite direction, and in doing so two cars were pushed out upon the main track.
No lights were displayed on the caboose of the freight, and the passenger train, which was running at 45 mph, crashed into the train. Five freight cars were thrown from the track, two of them being telescoped, and the others thrown into the ditch. The passenger engine is a total wreck, but the balance of this train was but little damaged and none of the passengers were injured. [SAG-18900-0913]
