Railroad: Indiana Northeastern

The Indiana Northeastern was started by an elevator operator in South Milford, Indiana, and operated state of Michigan owned lines in Hillsdale, Branch and St. Joseph counties. Operations in Michigan are centered in Hillsdale.

Time Line

2023. The Branch County Rail Users Association (RUA) receives a MDOT grant to upgrade 10 miles of railroad right-of-way from Coldwater to east of Quincy. MDOT provided  50% of the estimated cost of $625,000. The City of Coldwater and the INER both approved $312,500 and the INER covered some cost overruns. Total amount spent was $1.4 million.
