Time Line

1898. James Gray, a Michigan Central detective, shot and fatally wounded a man named John Kennell in the railroad yards at Michigan City this afternoon. Kennel was attempting to board a train and Gray pursued him. The former ran and in following him Gray fell. He claims his revolver was accidently discharged, while Kennell's statement to the coroner charges the officer with having deliberately fired the fatal shot. [DFP-1898-0608]
