Railroad: Southern Michigan Railway Company

The Southern Michigan Railway Co. was organized in 1906 to take over operations of the South Bend & Southern railroad. In 1910, it also consolidated the Chicago, South Bend & Northern Indiana railroad with ownership transferring to the CSB&N.. This railroad operated from South Bend, Indiana north through Niles, Michigan and reaching St. Joseph, Michigan on Lake Michigan. In 1934 it was abandoned. [MRL]


South Bend & Southern Michigan → Southern Michigan Railway → Chicago, South Bend & Northern Ry.


Acquired: 1906 - Niles & Buchanan and South Bend & Southern Michigan.

Operated for 24 years.

Operations Ended: 1930 - merged into Northern Indiana Railway.
