Owned by: Richmond Iron Co. (M.A. Hanna agent). Reverted in 1928 to Oliver Iron Mining Co., fee owner.

Produced: Iron Ore, hard, red, siliceous. Crushed.

Method: Open pit.

Railroad connection: C&NW to Escanaba. DSS&A to the Marquette dock via C&NW trackage rights from the mine to Palmer, and then north to Negaunee.

Until: 1956.

Lifetime Production: 3,511,218 tons from 1927 to 1950.

At the New Richmond, the mine used narrow gauge steam locomotives to pull cars through the mine on a loop and then dumped them into the crusher. They also had a coal dock at the mine.

Some of the mine tracks are still in place as of 2024. The site is owned in reserve by Cleveland Cliffs. [GS]
