Produced: Iron Ore, soft, red, non-Bessemer.
Method: Underground mine, worked by slicing, stoping and caving methods.
Railroad connection: LS&I to Presque Isle dock. DSS&A and C&NW had joint interest in lines to this mine - 1904 agreement.
Until: 1948
Lifetime Production: 6,890,949 tons from 1872-1948 (including Mary Charlotte Mine and Allen Mine).

Includes SW-NW Sec. 8 which is S 1/23 of former Bay State; all of Allen or Ada, SE-NW Sec 8; NE-SE Sec 7, which is East 1/2 of original Himrod or Orion; and NW-SW Sec 8 which is north half of former Star Mine.
From 1942 to 1947, Mary Charlotte included East Chicago Forty Mine, SE-SE Sec. 7 of T47N-R26W. Production of 454.262 tons from East Chicago Forty mine included in Mary Charlotte shipments.
Time Line
1907. September 7. Employed only a few hours as a switchman in the South Shore yards at Negaunee, John Malloney, a young man of that city, was swept from a car by the spout of a water tank at the Mary Charlotte mine and fell partially under the wheels. He sustained injuries which resulted in his death a few hours afterward. [DFP-1907-0909]
1912. All DSS&A and C&NW lines to Shaft #1, #2 were taken up. [CNWV]
