Notes

Smith Mine became the Cheshire mine in 1877, and then the Princeton Mine in 1898. There was also a pit near here known as the Mitchell pit (sunk by John Mitchell of Negaunee) near the NW corner of Section 20, near the later location of the Princeton #2 shaft.
