Notes

On lot 4 of Section 18-45-24 northwest of the Princeton Mine. This was a pit mine which was closed in 1884. Reopened again in 1885  by Joseph Wood and J. B.. Maas of Ishpeming. [LSMI-1909]


Time Line

1895. The Swanzy mine of the Escanaba River Land & Iron company has been optioned to the Cleveland Iron Mining company. A diamond drill was sent to the property this week and a test of the ore body will be made.

1897. The Swanzy mine, the property of the Escanaba River, Land & Iron company, will be disposed of at public auction. The property is one that offers rare inducement for the expenditure of capital. It possesses an ore of excellent grade and there is enough of it in sight to make a neat shipment. The ore is of Bessemer grade. With the mine is 703 acres of land, all on the mineral range.
