Notes
The Hilltop Mine was located near Crystal Falls and worked between 1899 and 1919.
Property description: SW-NW and W 1/2-SW Section 22, T43N-R32W which is the 120 acres between N46-6-6, 46-6-44, W88-17-58 and W88-18-18.
Time Line
1901. June. Shipping has started in a small way at this property. The ore is being sent forward over the CM&StP road to the new dock at Escanaba. About 40 men are employed at the property at the present mine. [DD-1901-0619]
1914. April. The work of unwatering the Hilltop mine was commenced last Monday morning by the Cuyahoga Mining Company. They will mine the ore in the Hilltop and the adjoining property. The Hilltop will employ about 75 men when operated to its capacity and will be a great help to the first ward which has had no active operations within its bounds for several years. While the Hilltop is not within the ward, the workmen employed there will all live in the ward. [DD-1914-0404]
