Notes
Superior Mine was a silver mine which was first worked in 1873 south of Silver City in Ontonagon County.
The Superior Silver Mining Company was organized in 1873 to work a newly discovered vein of silver not far from the Ontonagon Silver Mine. One shaft was sunk and shortly afterwards a stamp mill was built to serve the Superior as well as other mines in the area. The vein was productive, assaying at 43 ounces of silver per ton of rock processed. As mining operations continued, the company amassed a huge debt and after a stockholder meeting in 1879, the members elected to sell the property to pay off those debts. All mining activity ceased after this point. [MINDAT]
