1912. The breaking of Kearsage dam yesterday afternoon flooded the North Kearsage copper mine, causing a suspension of all mining operations. The water is 300 feet deep in the mine and rapidly rising. No lives were lost. The loss will amount to $50,000. [LSJ-1912-0720]
1914. Gust Olson, an engineer at No. 6 shaft of the North Kearsage mine, a subsidiary of the C&IH, was killed instantly Friday morning when a boiler exploded, wrecking the compressor plant and resulting in the closing of the mine. No others were hur. Olson being along in the plant. The loss is estimated at $25,000. [UVC-1914-1225]
