The Oneco Mine was first worked in 1862 and located uphill from what later became Hubbell in Houghton County.


Time Line

1910. A party of ten men are at work pumping water from the old Oneco mine preparatory to the resumption of operations there. [CN-1910-1119]

1912. A investigation is being conducted by the Osceola township board into the merits of a proposed highway, to run from the southeast part of the township near the Oneco mine, through the township to Torch Lake incline, then through Torch Lake township into Calumet township. The road would open new farmland and provide a way for farmers to market their product. [CN-1912-0327]

1914. Osceola township has increased the force of men engaged on the proposed road from the Oneco mine location to Calumet, four and 1/2 miles long. They are undertaking to improve a stretch of road about a mile long, just east of the street car station which will be a part of the complete highway. [CN-1914-0929]
