The Globe Mine was located two miles southwest of the Champion Mine near Painesdale in Houghton County. The mine was first worked in 1901.

Time Line

1906. George Quall, a discharged miner at the Globe Mine at Calumet, threatened the life of Capt. George Smithun and was shot and killed by the latter. Quail fired first, but Smithun went into the house and got a fun. [UVC-1906-0622]

1907. Thirty underground employees of the Globe Mine, who struck Saturday for higher wages, returned to work Monday, all excepting  seven being satisfied. The disgruntled ones were given their time. [DFP-1907-0924]

1909. The Copper Range Consolidated people have been much disappointed in their Globe Mine, south of Houghton, which, it was believed, would be developed into a rich sister of the Champion, Baltic and Trimountain of the Copper Range group. These expectations were far from realized, however. [DFP-1909-0101]
